Founded in 2005 by singer-songwriter and microbiologist-turned-musician Raghu Dixit, the band is renowned for forging a new indie-folk idiom—“Indo–World Folk Rock”—that celebrates linguistic identity and cultural roots with unguarded joy and irrepressible energy. Raghu’s stage persona—wearing lungi and ghungroos, blending Carnatic violin with electric guitar—has become emblematic of his authenticity and fearless expression.
Their debut in 2008 with the self-titled album became the highest-selling non-film record of the year, topping UK iTunes World Music charts, and earning them a global publishing deal with Sony/ATV in 2010.
